They are wingless, with mouthparts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Fleas are external parasites living on blood of humans, animals. Its total life span can be as short as one year, but may be several years in ideal conditions. Female fleas can lay 5000 or more eggs over their life, allowing for phenomenal growth rates. Average 30–90 days.
Fleas are blood sucking insect and can be very annoying to humans because chemicals in fleas saliva stimulate an immune response that causes itching. The same response can be much more severe in animals or your own household pets possibly producing a serious allergic response known as flea bite allergy in some animals. There are an estimated 2500 species of fleas in the world.
